Brief history of Cosmonautics Museum
The Museum of Cosmonautics is one of the largest scientific and historical museums in the world. The history of the museum began in the second half of the XX century, when in 1964 a monument to the Conquerors of Space appeared on the map of Moscow.
Titanium rocket at the Exhibition of Economic Achievements has become a symbol of the qualitative technological leap of its time. The launch of the first artificial Earth satellite, the first living beings and the first man in space became the starting point in the world cosmonautics.
The cosmos became closer to humanity. It was time to write a history.
In April 1981 in the basement of the monument the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics was opened. Here were presented the evidence of the first successes and achievements of Russian cosmonautics: the first spacesuits, the first artificial satellites of the Earth; space vehicles for studying the Moon and the planets of the solar system.
In 2009 the museum was opened after reconstruction. The exhibition space has been increased four times. For today the modern exposition of the museum consists of eight exhibition halls, a cinema hall and a conference hall.
